Scandinavian Models for Slovenian homes. Scandinavian influences in Slovenian housing culture after WWII

After the dispute of Yugoslavia with Informbiro in 1948, notably after mid 50-s, as the borders were opening and the economic situation improved, Slovenian architects started to embrace vibrant architectural scene of Western Europe. Among those especially Scandinavian countries have been proven to be of crucial importance. Development of Scandinavian architecture was regularly followed by Slovenian architects through publications, exhibitions and visits. Numerous architects travelled to Scandinavia for study and work, mostly to Sweden, but also to Finland, Denmark and Norway. As a consequence of those visits many additional connections were established, in form of co-operations, conferences, lectures. Architecture of Scandinavian countries was for Slovenian architects appealing mainly due to the well-developed housing policies and their long-standing efforts for a higher standard of living. Therefore the result of these contacts reflected primarily in the area of dwelling culture, as influences, echoes or interpretations of Scandinavian solutions in urban planning, housing construction, housing typology, floor plans and interior design. The aim of the contribution will be to present the circumstances of those influences and determine what their significance for development of Slovenian housing culture was after the World War II.
