MobiS - Personalized Mobility Services for energy efficiency and security through advanced Artificial Intelligence Techniques
====Project Objectives The main objective of MobiS project is to achieve energy efficiency and sustainable mobility, while in parallel satisfying environmental and personal criteria taking into account all different dimensions and implications, depending on the needs of each travelling person: the transport modes, transport objects, and other physical (sensor network), operational and business parameters. MobiS is approaching this complexity in a holistic way by introducing the concept of a mutual symbiotic relation in its core. This is a single, omnipresent relation type where all components that are involved or influenced by the multimodal mobility complex environment like objects (machines, computers, transport devices,...), people (citizens, social networks...), businesses and organisations, legal environment (formal rules, standards, regulations,...) and natural and social environment benefit from interacting with each other towards efficient and energy-positive mobility. ====Project in a nutshell MobiS federated infrastructure offers several functionalities for collecting, analysing and processing information from different sources: − **Retrieve and analyse the mobility plan** of citizens coming from different information sources: desktop calendar, PDA, sensor tables, etc. − **Allow the citizen to define the own decision criteria** for the best alternative route, such as cost, time, energy savings, etc. − **Collect information about the available transport means** satisfying the citizen’s mobility plan. Both traditional (public transport, private transport, urban bicycle networks, etc.) and emerging mobility models (car sharing, tweeting vehicles, etc.) are included here. − **Reasoning, predicting and planning the traffic in urban areas** based on the citizens’ mobility plans and existing transport network topology, decision criteria ====Approach Using the federation concept, MobiS is able to collect the information from different providers, building on FI-WARE enablers when and where practical: − **Private-public services:** concerning traffic information systems, telematics services, time schedules, e-transactions; provided by private or public bodies (urban authorities). − **Ambient data:** coming from various sensors and related infrastructures; − **Networking data from existing social media:** either for proposing car sharing alternatives with people knowing each other through Facebook, Twitter, etc. or for communicating information related to actual traffic situation − **Reasoning, prediction and Artificial Intelligence services:** existing infrastructures and project results used in order to provide reasoning, prediction and decision function services. These data will be processed through Artificial Intelligence services in order to serve people’s mobility needs in the most efficient and personalized way. MobiS approaches the complexity of multi-variant criteria and of crowd-sourcing collaborative systems with a holistic approach by introducing the concept of a mutual symbiotic relation in its core. This is a single, omnipresent relation type where all components that are involved or influenced by the multimodal mobility complex environment like transport devices, people, businesses and organisations as well the legal, natural and social environment benefit from interacting with each other towards efficient and energy-positive mobility.

Silknow - Weaving our past into the future
**[[http://silknow.org//|SILKNOW]]** is a research project that improves the understanding, conservation and dissemination of European silk heritage from the 15th to the 19th century. It applies next-generation computing research to the needs of diverse users (museums, education, tourism, creative industries, media…), and preserves the tangible and intangible heritage associated with silk. Based on records from existing catalogues, it aims to produce digital modelling of weaving techniques (a “Virtual Loom”), through automatic visual recognition, advanced spatio-temporal visualization, multilingual and semantically enriched access to digital data. Its research activities and output have direct impact in computer science and big data management, focusing on searching digital content throughout heterogeneous, multilingual and multimodal databases. ==== SILKNOW is made possible through the close cooperation of a multidisciplinary team, including areas as ICT, text analytics, image processing, semantics, big data, 3D printing, art history, terminology, textile fabrication and conservation. ==== SILKNOW is based on digital information about historical silk textiles provided by a number of European museums and collections. If you would like to know more about the data required for the project or would be interested in sharing your records do not hesitate to contact us. Collaborating institutions will benefit from expertise and best practices generated by the project. ====Why silk? European history is woven in silk. Throughout our past and present, few materials have had a similar presence: economic, technical, functional, cultural and symbolic. From flags to canopies, tapestries to furniture, fans to sword sheathes, wedding gowns to traditional costumes, we can find silk in countless contexts, over the last millennia. Many people experience vivid, personal and social connections to this heritage, linked to so many life stories and collective narratives. Luxury, craftsmanship, beauty and comfort have been -and still are- associated with it. Additionally, silk trade also allowed for exchange of ideas and innovations. Punched cards were first used in Jacquard silk looms, long before modern computers were even imagined. Nowadays, however, silk textiles are a seriously endangered heritage. There is also an associated intangible heritage -artisanal weaving techniques- at risk of disappearing. Countering those threats and making use of state-of-the-art technology, SILKNOW wants to showcase the splendor of silk, in Europe and worldwide, in the past and for the future. ====What are our main goals? 1. Semantically relating digitized European silk heritage, enabling data interoperability across different collections, for advanced searching abilities. 2. Building a “Virtual Loom” to clone weaving techniques. This will allow users to discover the complexity, artistic and artisanal values of ancient silk textiles, while preserving them for future generations. 3. Improve the understanding of the European silk heritage, thanks to visual tools that show the spatio-temporal relationships of data, including an open-access, multilingual thesaurus.

MicroHE - Supporting learning excellence, OEPass Open education passport
**[[https://microcredentials.eu/|MicroHE]]** aims to provide the most comprehensive policy analysis yet conducted of the impact of modularisation, unbundling and micro-credentialing in European Higher Education, and will address the challenges described above by: • **gathering the state of the art in micro-credentialing in European Higher Education today**, by organizing the first European survey on micro-credentials in HE, surveying at least 70 institutions across the continent, with the aim of understanding the current level of provision, the types of micro-credentials offered and future trends in provision of micro-credentials • **forecasting the impacts of continued modularisation of Higher Education on HE Institutions by** using forward-scanning techniques, specifically through the use of DELPHI methodology • **examining the adequacy of European recognition instruments** for micro-credentials, in particular ECTS, the diploma supplement and qualification frameworks • **proposing a ‘credit supplement’** to give detailed information about micro-credentials in a way compatible with ECTS, the diploma supplement and qualification frameworks • **proposing a meta-data standard and developing an online clearinghouse** to facilitate recognition, transfer and portability of micro-credentials in Europe. **[[https://oepass.eu/|OEPASS]]**: open education passport the recognition and transfer of individual credits through ects was created for an era of physical mobility, and is optimised accordingly. eu recognition instruments, such as the diploma supplement and the eqf, support the award of qualifications in the areas of formal learning, and are supported by recognition procedures for non-formal and informal learning. while these tools can be used to support open education and virtual mobility, a number of caveats exist to their use, including that: • little to no guidance exists on how to document virtual mobility / open education experiences for the purposes of credit transfer; • procedures for recognition of prior learning or of non-formal/informal learning do not scale to the massive numbers of students enrolling in open education programmes such as moocs; • there is no european approach to recognising, transferring or scaling open education modules. these problems are so pronounced, that many open educational providers are creating parallel systems of credentials that are not even described in terms of ects – leading to a situation where millions of students per year are enrolling in open courses offered by universities which do not necessarily award valid or recognised forms of credit. oepass intends to address these issues by creating a standard format for describing open education and virtual mobility experiences in terms of ects which: • addresses common criticisms (lack of trust) of open education, in particular with respect to student assessment and identity; • is scalable to hundreds or thousands of students through automatic issuing and verification of certificates; • can capture a wide range of non-formal and formal open education experiences.

Humane AI - Toward AI Systems That Augment and Empower Humans by Understanding Us, our Society and the World Around Us
The **[[http://www.humane-ai.eu/index.html|Humane AI]]** Flagship will develop the scientific foundations and technological breakthroughs needed to shape the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. The goal is to design and deploy AI systems that enhance human capabilities and empower both individuals and society as a whole to develop AI that extends rather than replaces human intelligence. This vision fits very well into the ambitions articulated by the EC in its Communication on AI but cannot be achieved by legislation or political directives alone. Instead it needs fundamentally new solutions to core research problems in AI and human-computer interaction (HCI), especially to help people understand actions recommended or performed by AI systems. Challenges include: learning complex world models; building effective and fully explainable machine learning systems; adapting AI systems to dynamic, open-ended real-world environments (in particular robots and autonomous systems in general); achieving in-depth understanding of humans and complex social contexts; and enabling self-reflection within AI systems. The focus is on human-centered AI, with a strong emphasis on ethics, values by design, and appropriate consideration of related legal and social issues. The HumanE AI project will mobilize a research landscape far beyond the direct project funding and create a unique innovation ecosystem that offers substantial return on investment. It will result in significant disruption across its socio-economic impact areas, including Industry 4.0, health & well-being, mobility, education, policy and finance. It will spearhead the efforts required to help Europe achieve a step-change in AI uptake across the economy. The preparatory action consortium, with 35 partners from 17 countries, including four large industrial members, will define the details of all aspects necessary to implement a full Flagship project, and mobilize major scientific, industrial, political and public support for the vision.
