The use of lo-fidelity prototyping, and in particular paper-based sketching, can save time, money and allow us to converge to better solutions. In particular for Information Visualization, sketching designs has been shown to be a useful way of planning and considering alternative solutions. However, managing the ideation process and converging to a suitable solution can be challenging. The Five Design Sheet (FdS) methodology enables users to create visualization, giving them the opportunity to: a. think divergently, create ideas, consider their viability and effectiveness towards the task, b. explore alternative combination of these ideas, c. converge into one final realisation design that can be implemented. The method has been successfully applied in a variety of settings, including research projects, collaborations between academia and industry, undergraduate and postgraduate courses on information visualization etc. This webinar presents the FdS method, providing basic background information, an outline of the five sheets and their sub-components, and an example of how the method can be used in interface design.
