Urbanism Through the Lenses of Globalisation
Answers to the questions about the future of urbanism as an activity and theory of planning and designing our cities and urban environments at large, cannot be found in adjectives whether it be "sustainable," "organic," "smart," "flexible," "tactical" or "resilient" urbanism. Urbanism and urban theory more generally, have been always embedded into urban social change and may be considered as a way how to respond to the problems brought about by changing urban realities. The lecture will confront the problems of the contemporary urbanism with the challenges of the globalisation, the transformation of the public sphere and the advancing militarisation of urban space. A tentative answer will be given to the question whether do we need a new urban utopia?
