Interaction Design is one of the newest specializations in the field of design which is closely related to the digital media. It is concerned not only with the products or services, but on how to design the way in which users interact. Interaction Design is about creating useful and usable products and services, about shaping our everyday life through digital artifacts for work and entertainment. The lecture, as an introduction to the field, will contextualize interaction design in contemporary design practice which is related to "new media". It will present an overview of the basic definitions of this field, explain the different design approaches, and will describe the methodology of the design process. The lecture will show examples from personal design research, practice and education process, and selected relevant works from other authors. Through these examples the specificity of this design approach will be explained. The aim of the lecture is an introduction to the complexity and the multidisciplinary nature of this field and contemporary design practice.
