Keynote Presentation: Cooperation Across Borders to leverage Science Diplomacy for Sustainable Resource Governance [15 min]

Format: Plenary panel discussion [45 min] with interactive dialogue with participants [15 min]

Key Messages: This session will examine how science diplomacy can forge sustainable governance of our transboundary natural resources. Drawing on good practices and lessons learnt from across the region, the discussion will focus on shared systems such as the Danube, Sava, and Drin River basins, mountain ecosystems, and the Adriatic coastline - resources vital for livelihoods, biodiversity, and economic activity.

Given the political sensitivities and integration dynamics in South-East Europe, these resources can either become sources of tension or opportunities for cooperation. The session will highlight experiences in environmental peacebuilding and water diplomacy, showing how science diplomacy can build trust, support joint initiatives, and ensure that common challenges are met with shared, evidencebased solutions.
