Key messages: The session will provide the global and regional context for science diplomacy, with contributions from UNESCO, the European Commission, and the Union for the Mediterranean. Speakers will highlight recent outcomes of UNESCO’s Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy in 2025 in Paris and the European Framework for Science Diplomacy (2025), as well as their implications for SouthEast Europe.
The session will set the scene for the meeting by outlining key priorities, challenges, and opportunities, and by framing how science diplomacy can serve as a tool to foster cooperation, strengthen trust in science, and align regional efforts with global agendas.
Ranging from the global to the regional and national levels, the session aims to illustrate the complementary scope of science diplomacy initiatives.
