TU Delft OCW: Solar Cells (ET4149)
Advanced semiconductor devices as a new source of energy for the 21st century, which deliver electricity directly from sunlight. The suitable semiconductor materials, device physics, and fabrication technologies for solar cells are presented. The guidelines for design of a complete solar cell system for household application are explained. The cost aspects, market development, and the application areas of solar cells are presented.
Study Goals: Students learn about renewable energy sources, namely the direct conversion of (solar) radiation into electricity using solar cells. Students understand the principles of the photovoltaic conversion and learn about the advantages and limitations of different solar cell technologies, such as crystalline silicon solar cell technology and thin film solar cell technologies. Students understand the specifications of solar modules and know how to design a complete solar system for a particular application.
