Regional EU-LAC Workshop on AI organised in the framework of TAIEX and the EU-LAC Digital Alliance
This Regional EU–LAC Workshop on AI organised by TAIEX is delivered under the AI component of the EU–LAC Digital Alliance and forms part ofthe 2026 AI work plan led by IRCAI, which combines high-level dialogue, technical assistance, capacity building, bi-regional coordination mechanisms, research cooperation, and regulatory support. The workshop is designed to respond directly to operational needs identified through regular policy dialogues on AI, bilateral consultations and coordination with partners (European Commission, ECLAC, EU Member States through the D4D Hub, partner countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and regional AI co-leads including Slovenia, Spain, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay).
Building on the outcomes and operational takeaways of recent EU–LAC dialogues (including Montevideo, March 2024, Santiago de Chile, November 2024, and São Paulo, July 2025), the workshop focuses on two priority strands where demand and momentum are particularly strong across participating public administrations:
(1) AI Factories and AI infrastructure ecosystems – reflecting the region’s growing emphasis on HPC as strategic infrastructure, the EU–LAC Supercomputing Network agenda, and the need to translate policy ambition into interoperable infrastructure, governance models, and skills pathways that enable safe, scalable, and trustworthy AI.
(2) AI and Education – supporting the establishment of an EU–LAC coordination mechanism/community of practice on AI in Education, and advancing practical public-policy approaches for AI literacy, pedagogical innovation, inclusion, and safeguards aligned with rights-based and trustworthy AI principles.
Across both strands, the workshop will strengthen shared understanding of risk-based governance and regulatory convergence, while facilitating peer exchange on concrete implementation challenges faced by public administrations—especially for countries with differing levels of institutional readiness and capacity.
