Gregor Golobič

Born in 1964 in Novo mesto, Slovenia, where he attended primary school and high school. In 1983 he enrolled in the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, in the Department of Slavic Studies and Philosophy, but when the Department of Philosophy was established, he re-enrolled in philosophy. In the mid-1980s he was a contributor to and editor of the youth magazine Valj, published in Novo mesto, and in the period 1986–1988 he was head of the social affairs editorial office at Radio Student and a columnist for the weekly Mladina. Towards the end of 1988 (as a candidate for graduation) he discontinued his studies to take a permanent job with the League of Socialist Youth of Slovenia, with the task to transform the LSYS into the Liberal Party. In 1990 he was elected a delegate to the then socio-political assembly of the post-independence National Assembly. In March 1992 he became secretary-general of the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia party, which was headed at that time by Dr Jane
