Christopher Baker

Born in London and educated at the Queen Elizabeth’s School Chris opted early for a career in Life Sciences and completed his PhD in Microbiology at the University of Wales, Cardiff in 1996, progressing to post doctoral research at the University of Toronto. He took on industry positions at Iogen Corporation in Ottawa working on fungal genetics and Ecopia BioSciences Inc. in Montreal where he was Group Leader of In-Silico Discovery. In 2004, Chris was recruited to manage a Genome Quebec project at Concordia University focused on applying Semantic Technology to fungal genomics. His team won the Semantic Web Challenge (2nd prize) at the International Semantic Web Conference in 2005. Building on considerable experience in Biomedical Informatics and Semantic Technologies he co-edited the book Semantic Web: Revolutionizing Knowledge Discovery in the Life Sciences published by Springer in 2007. Moving overseas to Asia, Chris headed the Semantic Technology Group at the Data Mining Dept., I2R,
